Another coach asked a question this week that I get often: “what’s your definition of a ‘great coach’?”
Over the years my answer has gotten less and less connected with anything basketball-related.
Having thought about it a lot the last couple of days… and I think that I’ve finally got an answer:
A great coach is someone who can make kids’ eyes shine.
If the eyes are shining then you know you’re making an impact.
Players don’t really care about how much knowledge you have until they notice in your presence with them how much you care about them – and not just ‘them’ as a player, but who they are as an individual, as a person.
A true coach, in my opinion, is someone who inspires others to dream more, do more and become more.
